The Premier League is the organising body of the Barclays Premier League — the top flight football league in England — with responsibility for the competition, its rule book and other commercial rights.
Following a 10% decline in away attendances over a 5 year period, the Premier League launched a major initiative to improve the match day experience for travelling supporters. As part of this initiative, they wanted to create a native iOS and Android ‘Away Days’ app, to provide fans all the information they could possibly need when planning a trip to and attending away games.
Working with the Future Platforms (FP) team, I contributed ideas and created supporting design concepts to help win the pitch. Alongside FP’s Head of UX, and with regular input from the Premier League, I then designed the entire user interface for the app, taking inspiration from the experience of attending a game.
On launch, the app received an average of 4 out of 5 stars on the app store. Future Platforms and the Premier League were very happy with the design, and I was asked back to work on subsequent interface design updates.
